Thomas Gates "Tom" Roach (1924 - 2010):
On October 21, Tom Roach passed away at the age of 86.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Lamar High School and Rice where he played on two SWC conference basketball championship teams in 1943 and 1944.  After military service, he co-founded Mecca Cable & Service in 1954 which was purchased by Teledyne in 1968 and he retired in 1988,  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Louis David Spaw, Jr. (1919-2010):
On Saturday, Louis David Spaw, Jr. passed away at the age of 91.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Rice in 1940 with a degree in Civil Engineering.  After military service, he founded the construction company Spaw-Glass, Inc.  He was a “highly successful businessman and an outstanding community leader”.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

James "Jimmy" Woodruff Jax:
On October 14, Jimmy Jax passed away at the age of 77.  Born in New Orleans, he graduated from Lamar High School and Rice where he played football in 1952.  Following military service, Jimmy enjoyed a successful real estate career in Houston.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

David Lemon (1940 - 2010):
On October 16, David Lemon passed away at the age of 70.  A native Oklahoman, he held degrees from the University of Texas and Rice ('62).  He was an Army colonel and later worked for ITT and Motorola.  Click here for the Washington Post obituary.
