Rice Veteran's Leadership Series, February 2:
Next up will be Admiral William H McRaven (ret), Chancellor of the University of Texas System and former Commander, United States Special Operations Command and AJ (Jim) Teague, CEO of Enterprise GP at 6 pm, this Thursday, February 2 at Shell Auditorium, McNair Hall.  The event is open to the public and there is a charge to attend.  Read/Register here.

Dr Ray Skaggs (1921 - 2017):
On January 23, Dr Ray Skaggs passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rice in 1942 and from UTMB Galveston in 1945.  He enjoyed a career in private practice for many years.  Also, in January 1962 he became the first medical director of Rice Student Health Services and served until October 1971.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of 68 years, Priscilla.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Betty Skiff recently passed away.  Born in St. Louis, she graduated from Rice at the age of 19 in 1945.  She is survived by, among others, her husband Thomas.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Cristle Collins Judd ’82 has been named the president of Sarah Lawrence College, beginning at the end of July.  And, Virginia Tech has appointed Virginia Ross '95 as dean of the College of Engineering, beginning July 31.

Two Speakers on Campus Tonight:
At 7 pm, the Hanszen College Fellows have invited comedian, executive producer and writer Adam Lowitt from the “Daily Show” to speak in the Hanszen College Commons.  And, at 8 pm, privacy researcher and activist Christopher Soghoian, formerly with the ACLU, will give a Scientia Lecture at McMurtry Auditorium, Duncan Hall.

Toni Mack:
As reported, Toni Mack passed away on November 26, 2016.  A native of Alabama, she earned a BA in Fine Arts and a MA in English from Rice in 1979.  She wrote for Forbes for 20 years beginning in 1980.  A memorial service will be held today at 9:30 am at the Westmoreland Chapel at South Main Baptist Church.  Click here for the obituary

Betty Allen (1927 - 2017):
On January 13, Betty Allen passed away.  A native Texan, she graduated from Rice in 1942. Her late husband, Jim Allen, graduated from Rice in 1944 and they were married for 67 years.  They lived in various cities in Texas (mostly Lake Jackson) and Mobile as Jim worked for Stauffer Chemical.  In addition to raising a family, she was active in the community and in her church.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary

Joe Lochridge (1932 - 2017):
On January 18, Joe Lochridge, the brother-in-law of the late Froggy Williams passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA (1954) and a BS (1959) in Civil Engineering from Rice.  In between his 2 degrees, he served in the Navy.  He enjoyed a 30-year career with Brown & Root.   He is survived by, among others, his wife of 53 years, Caroline.  The funeral service is tomorrow at 10 am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.  The funeral service is tomorrow at 10 am at Memorial Oaksuneral Home.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
