Austin Kubitza:
Per JD’s latest blog entry, Austin Kubitza may receive consideration for a spot on the Team USA collegiate national team this summer.  As of now, he is listed on the preliminary roster of the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Preseason USA Today/ESPN College Baseball Poll:
In its preseason Top 25 poll released on Friday, USA Today/ESPN ranked Rice as #7.  Also ranked were Florida (#1), South Carolina (#2), Stanford (#3), North Carolina (#4), Texas (#5), Texas A&M (#6) and  LSU (#14).

Preseason PG All-Americans:
Perfect Game released its preseason All-American teams on Friday.  As previously reported, Austin Kubitza was named to the second team.  Also, JT Chargois was named to the third team.

Preseason NCBWA College Baseball Poll:
In its preseason Top 35 poll released yesterday, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) ranked Rice as #8.  Also ranked were Florida (#1), South Carolina (#2), North Carolina (#3), Stanford (#4), Texas A&M (#5), Arkansas (#6), Texas (#7) and  LSU (#12).

Preseason PG All-Americans:
Yesterday, Perfect Game released its preseason All-American teams.  Austin Kubitza was named to the second team and first team Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (who is the nephew of Natalye Appel ‘80/’82) was named preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Houston Baseball Dinner, February 10:
As previously reported, the 27th annual Houston Baseball Dinner will honor Lance Berkman as Greater Houston area Major League Player of the Year.  Among the other honorees will be Austin Kubitza as Greater Houston Area Preseason College Player of the Year.  Also, the All-Greater Houston Preseason High School team including Rice signees Hunter Kopycinski (St Thomas), Kevin McCanna (The Woodlands), Leon Byrd (Cy Ranch) and Blake Fox (Episcopal) will be recognized.

The Dinner will be held in the Grand Ballroom, Hilton Americas Convention Center Hotel on Friday, February 10.  Click here to purchase tickets ($100) and/or for more information.
