Former Rice student body president Warren Skaaren '69 was the associate producer for Top Gun (1986) and he wrote the screenplays for Beetle Juice (1988) and Batman (1989).  Sadly, he passed away from bone cancer at the age of 44 in 1990.  Click here for the Los Angeles Times obituary dated January 3, 1991.

On Febraury 3, 1995, Jose Cruz Jr. was the first Owl to be named Greater Houston Area Preseason College Player of the Year at an annual Houston Baseball Dinner.
