Paul Giroski, Jr (1927 - 2011):
On January 25, Paul Giroski, Jr (Moose) passed away at the age of 84.  He was a two-time Rice football letterman (1949-1950) and was drafted by Washington in the fourth round in 1951.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Lonnie McKinney:
On Tuesday, Lonnie McKinney’s mother, Thomasine “Tommie” McKinney, passed away.  A memorial service will be held at 11 am today at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church, 6221 Main Street.  Click here for the Houston Chronicle obituary.

Yesterday, The Welch Foundation honored Rice scientist Jason Hafner with the 2011 Norman Hackerman Award.

Jackson & Ryan Architects:
Yesterday, the Houston chapter of the Urban Land Institute announced the winners of its 2011 Development of Distinction Awards.  The winner, in the not-for-profit category, was Jackson & Ryan Architects for the Children’s Museum of Houston.  Guy Jackson ’71 and Jeff Ryan ‘67/’69 formed Jackson & Ryan Architects in 1986.

Howard Gano Jr (1972 - 2011):
On January 19, Howard Gano Jr unexpectedly passed away at the age of 58, Although he graduated from UT in 1974 and was a Longhorn fan. "his heart belonged to the Rice Owls” as he attended Rice sporting events with his son.  He was a CPA and a partner in Gano & Gano with his father.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Carden Jenkins (1920 - 2011):
On January 22, Carden Jenkins passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1941 with a degree in mechanical and electrical engineering.  He enjoyed a long and successful business career.  His wife, who he married in 1947, passed away last October.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
