Jones School:
New book by Utpal Dholaki guides managers on pricing decisions (Rice News)

William Davis, PhD (1939 - 2017):
On May 13, Dr William Davis passed away.  Born in Alabama, he received 2 degrees from Abilene Christian in 1960 and 1961 and a PhD in Philosophy from Rice in 1965.  He taught at UH for 2 years and at Auburn for 47 years.  He is survived  by, among others, his wife Jill.  Click here for the Elk Valley Times obituary.

Hubert "Bruce" Finch (1929-2017):
On April 24, Hubert “Bruce” Finch passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Rice in 1956 after an over 4 year break in the US Air Force.  He held jobs in banking and manufacturing and was an investment advisor until retirement in 1995.  Also, he was an avid pilot until 2008.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of over 52 years, Caroline.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Cal Hill Jr (1930 - 2017):
On May 11, Cal Hill Jr passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice with a BA (’52) and a BS (’53) in Architecture.  After completion of active military service, he enjoyed a career in architecture and he remained in the Naval Reserve until retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service and attaining the rank of Captain.   Also, he had many interests during his life.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of almost 64 years, Gini.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

On May 10, Michael Arden passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1980 with a BS in Electrical Engineering.  He was a long-time employee of Microchip Technologies around the world, ultimately landing in Chandler AZ.  Also, he loved traveling.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Cecilia.  Click here for The Arizona Republic obituary.

Rice Design Alliance bids Sylvan farewell (Rice News)

William Burks (1936-2017):
On May 8, William Burks passed away.  A native of Mississippi, he graduated from Tulane in 1959 and from Rice in 1971 with a Master in Architecture.   He practiced architecture in Baton Rouge for 45 years and taught at LSU for 27 years.  Also, he was very active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 54 years Marsha Lynn.  Click here for the Advocate obituary.

Orville Gaither (1927 - 2017):
On June 29, Orville Gaither passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1949, a Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from UH in 1962 and a MBA from Stanford in 1976.  He enjoyed a 43-year career with Amoco Oil.  Also, he was involved in Scouting all his life and he was very active in the community.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 63 years Margaret.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Caroline Masiello:
Masiello elected fellow of Geological Society of America (Rice News)

Ebb Berry, DDS (1936-2017):
On May 8, Dr Ebb Berry passed away.  A sixth generation Texan, he attended Rice (class of 1958) and graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans and UT Dental School in Houston.  He practiced dentistry in Texas for many years before joining the faculty of the UT Health Science Center in Houston.  Also, he was a voracious reader, he earned his private pilot’s license and he enjoyed painting.  Click here for The Birmingham News obituary.
