Matthew Sands (1919 - 2014):
On September 13, Matthew (“Matt”) Sands passed away.  A native of Massachusetts, he earned a BA in Physics and Mathematics from Clark University in 1940, a MA in Physics from Rice in 1941 and, after WWII service at Los Alamos on the Manhattan Project, a PhD from MIT in 1948.  He enjoyed a career as a physicist and educator at MIT, Caltech, Stanford/SLAC and UC Santa Cruz.  Also, he was a co-author of the Feynman Lectures on Physics, perhaps the most popular physics book ever written.

Gladys Wylie (1928 - 2014):
On September 1, Gladys Wylie passed away.  A native Oklahoman, she graduated from Rice in 1949.  She was a professor at Tyler Junior College.  Her interests were her family, gardening and sewing but her passion was studying the Bible and teaching it.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Bill Frazier:
As reported, Bill Frazier ‘54 passed away at the age of 83 on Wednesday.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Visitation will be held at George H Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Dr, tomorrow between 4 – 6 pm.  There will be a private burial at Forest Park Lawndale Sunday morning followed by a 2 pm memorial service at St Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 S Main.

Bill Frazier:
Last night, Bill Frazier passed away at the age of 83.  He graduated from Rice in 1954 where he was a two-sport letterman in football (1951-52) and baseball (1953).  After military service, he earned his law degree in 1963 from UH.  He is a past president of the R Association. 

His son Kyle graduated from Rice in 1983 and his grandson Brandt just entered Rice and is on the baseball team.  The funeral will be this Sunday.  Details to follow.
