Anita Mantri (1986 - 2016):
As reported, Anita Mantri, who graduated from Rice in 2009 and was enrolled in the MD/PhD program at Texas A&M, passed away on November 10.  Yesterday, Texas A&M’s Silver Taps ceremony was held for her.  Click here for TheBatt.com story entitled  “determined scholar inspired all who knew her”.

Last week, Scott Brown ‘83 was named chief creative officer of Texas Monthly.  Read more. 

Alma Wetzel (1920 - 2016):
On October 26, Alma Wetzel passed away.  Because her parents did not approve their teenage romance, she secretly married Charles Wetzel in 1938.  After military service, he graduated from Rice in 1950.  They were married for 72 years when he passed away in 2008.  Her “driving passions were her family, bridge, gardening and church”.  Click here for the San Angelo Standard-Times obituary.

Anita Mantri (1986 - 2016):
On November 10, Anita Mantri passed away.  She graduated from Rice with a BS in Earth Science in 2009 and was accepted into the MD/PhD program at Texas A&M College of Medicine with the intent to pursue aerospace medicine while she was working for NASA.  This year, she earned her PhD and was a third year medical student.  Also, her personal passion was music and performing arts.  Click here for the obituary.

Lloyd Grinslade (1927 - 2016):
On November 5, Lloyd Grinslade Jr passed away.  A native of New Mexico, he attended Rice (class of 1949), served in the US Army and then graduated from USC.  He enjoyed a lifelong career in the insurance industry in California.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 63 years, Patricia.  Click here for the Sacramento Bee obituary.
