Dr. William Lorimer Jr (1946-2017):
On December 7, Dr William “Bill” Lorimer Jr passed away.  A native Virginian, he earned a BA from Rice in 1968 and a MD from Mount Sinai Medical School in New York in 1972.  He enjoyed a medical career in New York, Virginia and North Carolina.  Also, he loved to sing in choir at church, to sail and to care for his cats.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 46 years, Marcia.  Click here for The News & Observer obituary.

Nagarajaiah elected ASCE Fellow (Rice News)

Peter Lamy (1940-2017):
On December 7, Peter Lamy, the father of former Rice student-athletes Jay ‘95, Joe ‘98 and Marielle ‘07, passed away in Austin.  Jay was a four-year football letterman (1992-93-94-95) and the 1996 Bob Quin Award winner, Joe was a one-year football letterman (1994) and Marielle was a one-year soccer letterwinner (2003).  Click here for the obituary.

Joseph Duffel (1924-2017):
On December 1, Joseph “Joe” Duffel passed away.  A native Texan, two of his descendants were Henry S Clay Sr and Will Allen Dromgoole.  He transferred from Baylor to Rice (class of 1945) where he was inducted into the Navy V12 program in 1943.  After WWII military service, he graduated from UC Berkeley.  He enjoyed a 64-year career as a prominent Bay Area builder and real estate developer.  Also, he was very active in the community.  Click here for the East Bay Times obituary.

Mararet Klumb (1928-2017):
On December 5, Margaret Klumb passed away.  A native Texan, she graduated from Rice in 1950.  In 1958, she married the late George Klumb ’49.  She worked about 15 years as a medical technician and “then began her true career as a mother in 1972”.  Also, she loved to read and was active in the community.  Click here for the Midland Daily News obituary.

William Meador (1929-2017):
On November 24, William Meador passed away.  A native of Oklahoma, he earned a BA (’51) and a PhD (’56) in Chemistry from Rice.  He worked for Conoco and Chemical Abstracts Service until his retirement in 1994.  Also, he was a good storyteller, a talented musician and an avid rose gardener.  Click here for The Columbus Dispatch obituary.

Peggy Dwelle (1922-2017):
On December 2, Peggy Dwelle passed away.  She was the wife of the late Dick Dwelle ’43 (he passed away on June 28, 2017) who was a three-year football letterman (1940-41-42) and was inducted into the Rice Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.  The family was the longtime owner of the Athens Daily Review.  Click here for the Dallas Morning News obituary

Ralph Anderson, Jr (1923-1990) (Woodson Research Center)

John McGill (1950-2017):
On December 7, John McGill passed away after a short illness.  A native Pennsylvanian, he earned a BA in History from Rice in 1973 and a JD from UT Law in 1976.  He enjoyed a legal practice in Austin for many years.  Also, he was an avid fan of Rice Athletics, especially baseball.  He came to Houston for almost all home games and made it to Omaha every time the Owls advanced to the College World Series, including 2003.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Ann (they were married in 2004).

A celebration and memorial will be held Saturday, December 16, 2 pm at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 4700 Grover Avenue, Austin.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be designated to the Owl Club.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary.

Kathleen Boyd
’80, CMO, Houston Airport System, will be the guest speaker at the American Marketing Association monthly luncheon in the Woodlands next Wednesday.  She recently won the 2017 SYSCO Marketing Innovator Award.  Read more and/or register here.

Mary Jane Tanguy (1925-2017):
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Mary Jane Tanguy passed away.  A native Houstonian, she graduated from Rice in 1945 with a major in French.  Her “primary occupation became that of a wife and mother” while “remaining constantly active” in the community.  She is predeceased by, among others, her husband of 58 years Denis. Allen Lubbock Lewis (1924-2017):
On November 30, Allen Lubbock Lewis passed away.  A native Houstonian, he was a descendent of Frances R Lubbock, the ninth Governor of the State of Texas.  He earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Rice in 1944 and was a golf letterman.  He enjoyed a career as a process engineer.  Also, he was an avid fan of Rice baseball and was active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 69 years, Martha.  Click here for the obituary.
