Ann Tausch (1929-2017):
On December 5, 2017, Ann Tausch passed away.  A native of California, she earned a BA from Mills College and a MA in History from Rice in 1950.  She worked at CBM Engineering before retiring.  She is survived by, among others, her son Dr. Gilbert Tausch ’77.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Gordon Davenport Sr (1923-2017):
On December 4, 2017, Gordon Davenport Sr passed away.  A native of Oklahoma, he started Rice, left to serve in WWII and returned to Rice for a BS in Chemical Engineering degree in 1949.   In 1951, he began a 34-year “distinguished and storied” career with Monsanto Company.  Also, he was very active in the community.  He is predeceased by, among others, his first wife of 38 years, Jean, and his second wife of 22 years, Ora.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

June Davis (1921-2018):
On February 3, June Davis passed away.  She attended Rice (class of 1942) and graduated from UH in 1941 with a degree in English and Drama.  She was a resident of Harlingen at time of passing. Click here for the obituary.

Maidel Cason:
On January 8, Maidel Cason passed away. A native Houstonian,, she graduated from Rice in two years with a BA in Biology in 1948.  She “was a feminist, a librarian, a teacher, a missionary, a fierce seeker of justice who put on no airs and lived her values” in the United States and abroad.  She is survived by, among others, four (of her five children) and 7 grandchildren.  Click here for the Chicago Tribune obituary.

Kathleen Williamson (1949-2018):
On February 8, Kathleen Williamson passed away. A native of the State of Washington, she earned a BA in Fine Arts from Rice in 1972.  Since 1998, she worked for the College of Business at University of Houston-Clear Lake as a lecturer in marketing and lastly as Executive Director, Academic Programs and Advising.  She is survived by, among others, her husband Michael Crippen.  Click here for the obituary.

Patricia Reiff:
A satellite's stunning return (Rice News)

Dr Nathan Topek (1926-2018):
On February 5, Dr Nathan Topek passed away. A native Houstonian, he earned a BA from Rice and a MD from Baylor College of Medicine in 1948.  After military service during the Korean War, he enjoyed a medical practice as a gifted surgeon in the area of women’s reproductive health.  Also, he was the longtime chairman of the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation. 

He is survived by, among others, his wife of 60 years, Cynthia, his son Kevin Topek ’83 and his daughter-in-law Mindy Vanderford ’84, a FOFL board member.  The funeral will be graveside at Glenwood Cemetery this Friday, February 16 at 1:30 pm with a reception to follow at Treebeards at Market Square from 3-7.  Click here for the obituary.

Patty Hoyt (1927-2018):
On January 22, Patty Hoyt passed away.  Raised in Houston, she earned a BA from Rice in 1948 where she met her future husband, Donald ’49 and they were married in 1947.  Together, they raised 7 children  and eventually had 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  In June, they celebrated 70 years of marriage.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
