Wes Anderson:
Last night, Wes Anderson’s ”The Grand Budapest Hotel” won 4 Oscars at the Academy Awards.  He is the son of ARA Meritorious Service Award winner and avid Rice baseball fan Texas Anderson ‘81/’85.  Read more.

Oren Hayon '94:
Yesterday, Congregation Emanu El, across the street from Rice, elected Rabbi Oren Hayon ’94 as its Senior Rabbi.
  

Samuel Bame (1924 - 2014):
On December 14, Samuel Bame passed away.  After military service in WWII, he earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from UNC in 1947 and a master’s (1949) and a PhD in nuclear physics (1951) from Rice.  He joined Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1951 where he enjoyed a 40-year career.  Click here for the Los Alamos Monitor obituary.

Duane Feeley:
On January 26, Duane Feeley passed away.  He graduated from Rice with a BA in Organic Chemistry in 1946.  He worked for Monsanto and Arthur D Little.  An avid musician, he joined several symphony orchestras after retirement.  Click here for The Marshield MA Mariner obituary.

Last night, Preservation Houston presented the 2015 Gold Brick Awards for excellence in historic preservation and Phoebe Tudor received the President’s Award “for her outstanding personal and professional contributions to historic preservation in Houston”.  Click here for a list of the 2015 Gold Brick Award winners.

Robert Toft (1933 - 2015):
On January 28, Robert Toft passed away.  A native Wisconsinite, he graduated from Beloit with a BA in Biology in 1955, from Rice with a MA in Physiology in 1957 and from Rice with a PhD in Physiology/Endocrinology in 1960.  He enjoyed a distinguished career as an author and educator at Rice and other universities until he retired in 1998.  Click here for the Grand Rapids Press obituary.

On January 28, Wilford King passed away.  A native Kansan, he graduated from Rice in 1949.  He was a “developer, homebuilder, farmer, rancher as well as the owner of a record store, hardware store, bank and Arabian horse farm".  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
