The Way I See It: Rice is No. 1 in US House of Representatives (Rice News)

Jerry Stephens (1928 - 2015):
On August 20, Dr Jerry Stephens passed away.  He earned a BA from Rice in 1950, a medical degree from UT Galveston in 1954 and a dermatology degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1963.  After military service, he practiced on his own and then with Kelsey-Seybold until he retired 10 years ago at the age of 76.  Also, his hobby was raising orchids and he was active in his church.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 61 years, Martha.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Dick Morris (1919 - 2015):
On August 26, Dick Morris passed away.  A native Floridian, he graduated from Rice in 1941 where he was a Southwest Conference and NCAA tennis champion and won the 1941 Bob Quin Award.  After WWII military service, he attended Yale Law School and went into the oil business in Charlotte NC.  Also, he was active in the community.   He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of 66 years, Betty.  Click here for the Charlotte Observer obituary.

The Deciduous Trio:
On Friday night (September 4), the Deciduous Trio, composed of flutist Amulet Strange ’14, violist Stephanie Mientka ’13 and harpist Hope Cowan ’15, opens the Phil Kramer Recital Series at New Hope Lutheran Church in Missouri City.  Read more.

Chuck Reid:
Avid Rice baseball fan Chuck Reid has passed away in California.  There will be a memorial service next Tuesday, September 8, at 10 am at St. Michael Catholic Church in Houston.  I will post the obituary when available.
