The Founding Director's Lecture Series, March 9:
Next up in the lecture series is Richard Fisher, who retires this month as the president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, next Monday evening, March 9 at the Baker Institute.  The event is open to the general public for a $20 registration fee.  Read more.

Gretchen Lash:
On January 16, Gretchen Lash passed away at the age of 61.  She earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell in 1975 and a MBA from Rice in 1986.  She was a well-known executive in the investment industry.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 31 years, Randy.  Click here for the Hartford Courant obituary.

Wes Anderson:
Last night, Wes Anderson’s ”The Grand Budapest Hotel” won 4 Oscars at the Academy Awards.  He is the son of ARA Meritorious Service Award winner and avid Rice baseball fan Texas Anderson ‘81/’85.  Read more.

Oren Hayon '94:
Yesterday, Congregation Emanu El, across the street from Rice, elected Rabbi Oren Hayon ’94 as its Senior Rabbi.
  

Samuel Bame (1924 - 2014):
On December 14, Samuel Bame passed away.  After military service in WWII, he earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from UNC in 1947 and a master’s (1949) and a PhD in nuclear physics (1951) from Rice.  He joined Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in 1951 where he enjoyed a 40-year career.  Click here for the Los Alamos Monitor obituary.
