Marcus Epperson (1926 - 2016):
On November 1, Marcus Epperson passed away.  A native Texan, he attended Tyler Junior College and graduated from Rice in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He spent most of his career with Tidewater Oil which became Getty Oil and then was purchased by Texaco until he retired in 1990.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 56 years, Ann.  Click here for he Tyler Morning Telegraph obituary.

Vince Bell:
Texas singer-songwriter shares insights with Rice students (Rice News)

Robert Schwartz (1929 - 2016):
On November 19, Robert (Bob) Schwartz passed away.  A native Houstonian, he earned BSEE and MSEE degrees from Rice.  After military service in the Korean War, he worked in Washington DC and Houston and his name appears on 14 patents.  Also, he was active in the community.  He is predeceased by, among others, his wife of 47 years, Miriam.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Deborah Romotsky Cortes (1944 - 2016):
On November 1, Deborah Romotsky Cortes passed away while traveling in Peru.  A native New Yorker, she attended Rice (class of 1965) where she met her husband, Gary Coates ’61/’62.  She graduated from UMKC.  She was devoted to her family, she was active in the community and she was an avid supporter of the Rice Owls.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 53 years, Gary.  Click here for the Kansas City Star obituary.

Nancy Blakemore Renaud (1922 - 2016):
On October 31, Nancy Blakemore Renaud passed away.  A native Houstonian, she graduated from Rice with a BA in English in 1943.  She was active in the community, she had a passion for traveling and she enjoyed spending time at Lake Houston with family and friends.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Marilyn Meyer Disher (1940 - 2016):
On October 27, Marilyn Meyer Disher passed away.  She earned a BA in Romance Language from Rice in 1962 and a Master in Library Sciences from Florida State in 1975.  She worked at university libraries in Alabama, Florida and Louisiana.  She enjoyed “family, friends, music, compliments, ice-cream and chocolate, not necessarily in that order”.  Click here for The Huntsville Times obituary.

Florence Ellis (1928 - 2018):
On October 28, Florence Ellis passed away.  A native of Louisiana, she graduated from Rice in 1950.  She worked as a demonstrator for Litton Industries.  Also, she was a member of DAR and enjoyed cruising and horseback riding.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
