Harvey McClay (1939 - 2015):
On March 28, Harvey McClay passed away.  A native Houstonian, he earned a BS in Mathematics from Rice in 1960.  He worked for the federal government and for HISD and he also taught computer classes part-time at HCC for over 20 years before retiring in 2001.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 54 years, Patricia.  Click here for the Pasadena Citizen obituary.

Ben Behravesh (1943 - 2015):
On March 25, Ben Behravesh passed away.  Born in Iran, he earned an undergraduate degree from UH and a Master’s degree from Rice in 1970, both in Architecture.  He taught architecture at the University of Tehran and also practiced architecture in the United States.  Click here for the Kansas City Star obituary.

Pat Jones (1934 - 2015):
On March 25, Pat Jones passed away.  Born in Spain, he earned a BA and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rice in 1955 and 1956, respectively. He enjoyed a career with Dupont in Canada and various countries.  In retirement, he was active with Habitat for Humanity.  Click here for the Naples Daily News obituary.

Peggy Welch (1931 - 2015):
On March 28, Peggy Welch passed away.  She earned a BA in Zoology at UT in 1952 and, after rearing her children, returned to school to earn a MA from Lamar in 1973 and a PhD from Rice in 1980.  She was active in the community and the church, she was a “recognized watercolorist” and she and her husband Dick traveled the world together.  Click here for the San Antonio Express-News obituary.

Rice junior chosen for a Beinecke Scholarship (Rice Owls)

James Webster (1913 - 2015):
On March 19, James Webster Jr passed away at the age of 102.  A native Texan, he earned a BA in Architecture from Rice in 1935.  He served in the Navy in WWII and then resumed his architectural career.  He “was a devoted son, husband, brother, loving father, grandfather, coach, scout leader and mentor”.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Mother Cecilia OSB (Martina Snell), who earned a Bachelor in Music from Rice in 1999, is “featured on this PBS program for the most recent CD she recorded with the Benedictines of Mary”.

Krishna Palem:
Palem wins Guggenheim Fellowship (Rice News)

John Benzon (1950 - 2015):
On March 30, John Benzon passed away.  A native Pennsylvanian, he earned a BA in Biology from Rice in 1972 and a graduate degree in accounting from UH in 1977.  He enjoyed a 34 year career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and, for a time, was the partner in charge of the Rice financial audit.  Also, he was a long time Rice fundraising and alumni volunteer as well as an avid supporter of Rice Baseball and Rice Athletics in general.  He “lived his life with enthusiasm, curiosity, intelligence, and great love”.  His memorial service is at 11 am today at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Cristle Collins Judd '83:
On Friday, the Andrew W Mellon announced the appointment of Cristle Collins Judd ’83 as a Senior Program Officer in Higher Education and Scholarship.  Read more.

Thomas Flynn (1933 - 2015):
On March 16, Thomas Flynn passed away.  A native Texan, he earned undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rice (BA 1954, BS 1955) and graduate degrees from the University of Colorado (Masters, 1956 and PhD, 1958).  He co-authored one text book and two books on Cryogenic Engineering.  Also, he loved to travel and was an avid SCUBA diver.  Click here for The Boulder Daily Camera obituary.
