William Ward Watkin
, who was the original Supervising Architect beginning in 1910 for the construction of the initial buildings of Rice and was the first chairman of the Rice Architecture Department (a position he held for some 40 years until his death in 1952), also planned the master campus and designed the seal for Texas Tech.

This week, Rice Historical Society members are receiving the latest Cornerstone, entirely devoted to Watkin, together with a reprint of the “Brochure of the Work of Wm Ward Watkin Architect” originally published the 1920s.

Mario Götze, the son of Rice DSP alumnus Jürgen Götze, scored the decisive goal for Germany against Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday. From 1995 to 1996, he was a postdoc researcher with the Digital Signal Processing (DSP) group of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rice.  Read more.
