World Champions:
Yesterday, the West U Little League Seniors, coached by Clint Sauls, Cape Bell, Parker Duffie and James Williamson, defeated US Central, 8-1, to become the Senior League World Series Champions for the second year in a row and the third time in six years in Bangor ME.

The World Champions are Mitchell Black, Barron Brown, Jared Burch, Harry Burks, John Doxakis, Turner Gauntt, Joe Gobillot, Owen Holt, Henry Hughey, William James, Brady McConaty, Jacob Millender, Thomas Parks, Joe Sondock, Michael Streitman and Jimmy Winston.

Also, on Friday night, the West U Little League Seniors won the Daniel E Clifford Sportsmanship Award, “given to the team that best exemplifies the tenets of playing hard, playing fair and playing to have fun”.  Read here.

Senior League World Series, Bangor:
Today at 11 am CT, the West U Little Seniors (“US Southwest”) defend their Senior League World SeriesChampionship again US Central (East Holmes OH LL) The game will be televised on ESPN2.  Also, there will be a watch party at Little Matt’s (6203 Edloe) hosted by owner Jim Reid at 10:30 am.  Finally, click here to follow on GameChanger and/or listen here.

Three team members, all of whom were on last year’s National Championship team, have family ties to Rice.  Jimmy Winston is the grandson of Pamela ’69 and Dr. Leland Winston ’69, a three-year Rice football letterman (1966-67-68) and Owen Holt, who started Lamar High School football on Monday and is with the team in spirit, is the son of Maynard Holt ’89.  Also, William James’ maternal great grandmother Mary Virginia Hail attended Rice (class of ‘39), his uncle Joe Halbouty graduated from Rice in 2006 and William is the god-son of Warren Savery, father of former Rice baseball player Joe Savery ’08. 

The manager of the team is Clint Sauls and the coaches are Cape Bell, Parker Duffie and James Williamson, the brother of former Rice baseball player John Williamson ‘15.  Interestingly, John was a member of the 2009 West U Little League Senior National Championship team.

Owls in Summer  Ball:
Early this morning, the Seattle (WA) Studs blanked the Santa Barbara Foresters, featuring Willy Amador, Ryan Chandler and Glenn Otto, 7-0, in an elimination game at the NBC World Series in Wichita.

Senior League World Series, Bangor:
Yesterday, John Doxakis pitched a complete game to lead the West U Little Seniors to a 4-1 semi-final win over US East at the Senior League World Series in Bangor ME.  Tomorrow at 11 am (CT), the team (“US Southwest”) plays US Central (East Holmes OH LL) for the Championship. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
