David Chilton (1954 - 2013):
On May 3, David Chilton passed away.  A native Virginian, he graduated from the Coast Guard in 1979, from Rice with Masters in History (1990) and Education (1992) and then from Duke with a Masters in Divinity.  For 25 years, he taught at the high school and college levels in North Carolina, Virginia and Texas.  Also, he was very active in his church.  Click here for the Bay Area Citizen obituary.

Suzanne Jonsson Mercado (1927 - 2013):
On May 13, Suzanne Jonsson Mercado passed away.  A native New Yorker, she graduated from Rice in 1946.  Beginning in 1948, she taught English and other subjects at St. John’s for 35 years  .Afterwards, she obtained a law degree from UH and then tutored students.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Mary Ann Kinnebrew Boyd:
On May 13, Mary Ann Kinnebrew Boyd passed away.  She earned an undergraduate degree from Lamar in 1961 and a MA from Rice in 1964.  While teaching school, she obtained a law degree from UH in 1988 and then practiced law for 10 years.  She was active in volunteer and religious organizations.  She is survived by, among others, her brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Mary Jane Kinnebrew.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Capo team clamps, picks and grins (Rice News)

Harry Christian Hoover (1926 - 2013):
On April 25, Harry Christian Hoover Jr passed away.  After WWII service, he earned a BA, Architecture in 1950 and a BS, Architecture in 1951 from Rice.  As part of the Centennial Story Project, he reminisced about his experiences at Rice in 1949-50 including becoming yell leader, SWC football and Austin.  

In 1955, he started his own architectural firm in Dallas.  Also, he was very active in many civic and professional organizations including serving as an ARA board member from 1988 to 1991 and as a past president of the Dallas-Fort Worth alumni group.  Click here for the Dallas Morning News obituary.

2013 ARA Lauretes Celebration Dinner:

Richard Isaacks:
On May 7, Richard (Dick) Isaacks passed away at the age of 89.  A native Texan, he graduated from Lamar High School in 1941, served in WWII and graduated from Rice, Class of 1947.  He worked in the oil and gas exploration business for over 40 years.  His passions were many including membership in the R Association.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 66 years, Lawrean.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
