Owls in NFL Playoffs:
Yesterday, the New England Patriots defeated Chris Boswell and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game to advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5 in Houston.  Patti Lipoma Kraft ’87, a member of the Rice Board of Trustees, is married to Jonathan Kraft, president of the Patriots.

Hart Peebles (1937 - 2017):
On January 15, Hart Peebles passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1959 where he was a two-year football letterman (1956, 1958).  He served 12 years in the Naval Reserve and he enjoyed a real estate career, first at First Mortgage Company and then he founded Peebles Management.  The memorial service is today at 11 am at St. Martin’s.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

NFL Playoffs:
On Saturday, both Luke Willson (Seattle) and Christian Covington (Houston) lost in the playoffs.  Yesterday, Chris Boswell (Pittsburgh) became the first player in NFL history to make 6 field goals in a postseason game and defeated Phillip Gaines (Kansas City) in the playoffs.  Read more.  (Thanks, John Montana!)

Yesterday, Sam McGuffie and Steven Holcomb led Team USA with a tenth place finish in the two-man bobsled World Cup in Winterberg, Germany.  Read more.
