Judith Cashen Allen (1939 - 2016):
On September 7, Judith Cashen Allen passed away.  A native of New Mexico, she graduated from Rice in 1961.  She served as a Cenacle Sister from 1963-1968 and she was co-owner of ABC (Allen Book Center) from 1980-1985.  She is survived by, among others, her husband Fred.  Click here for The Beaumont Enterprise obituary.

Rice orchestras to present season debut concerts (Rice News)

John Sealy Jockusch (1917 - 2016):
On September 4, John Sealy Jockusch passed away.  Born in Galveston, he attended Rice (class of 1941) and served 5 years in the Army.  He worked for Dittmar & Co (now Morgan Stanley) from 1950 until 2010 when he retired at the age of 93.  Also, he was very active in his church and in the community, including helping to form the United Way of Texas.  Click here for the San Antonio Express-News obituary.

Jan West '73:
Public Affairs' Jan West honored by Rice Board of Trustees (Rice News)

Bill Cooper (1923 - 2016):
On September 5, Bill Cooper passed away.  A native Nebraskan, he completed Rice in 1947 after military service.  He enjoyed a career with Humble Oil (nka ExxonMobil) for over 35 years until he retired in 1982.  He was married to his wife Grace for 68 over years.  Also, he supported many charities.  Click here for the Dallas Morning News obituary.

Jan West '73:
Public Affairs' Jan West honored by Rice Board of Trustees (Rice News)

Joan Portis Wyatt (1931 - 2016):
On August 25, Joan Portis Wyatt passed away.  A native Texan, she attended Rice (class of 1953) where she met her late husband of 57 years Gordon (’51).  After raising a family, she earned a BS (’85) and a MS (’87) from Sam Houston State.  She enjoyed a career as a counselor, a professor at South Plains College and a Peace Corps volunteer in the Ukraine.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Rice Media Center Premier, September 24:
The US premier of “we are in it”, a film by Yehuda Sharim, will take place at the Rice Media Center on Saturday, September 24  The film “chronicles the stories and journeys of five Houston residents and their attempt to find refuge in this American metropolis”.  The event is open to the public but registration is recommended.  Read more.
