Carolyn McShan (1947-201):
On November 12, Carolyn McShan passed away.  A native Texan, she graduated from Baylor and from Rice with a Master of Music degree in 1986.  She was a professional musician for many years in Houston and Oklahoma City.  Later, she became an ESL instructor.  She is survived by, among others, her husband of 42 years, William.  Click here for The Oklahoman obituary.

Lisa Deason (1996-2017):
On November 12, Lisa Deason passed away at the age of 51.  A native Texan, she earned a BA in Sociology from Rice and a master’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Oklahoma State in 1994.  Since 1996, she worked at Green Country Behavioral Health Services in Muskogee and since 2009 she was Clinical Director.  She is survived, by among others, her husband Danny (they were married in 1989).  Click here for the obituary.

Deborah Martinez (1957-2017):
On October 22, Deborah Martinez passed away.  A native Houstonian, she earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Rice in 1981.  She enjoyed a corporate career with Dow, ExxonMobil and CNRL as well as cofounding a remodeling and construction company.  Also, she loved to travel. Ann Phenicie (1926-2017):
On November 7, Ann Phenicie passed away.  A native of Washington DC, she graduated from Rice in 1946 where she met her late husband John ’47.  They raised 5 children and she was active in her church and involved in volunteer service in Houston, Casper and Tulsa.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

James Berry (1932-2017):
On November 5, James Berry passed away.  A native of Michigan, he earned a BS in Architecture from Rice in 1956 where he met and married his wife of 60 years, Joan ’56.  After military service, he enjoyed a career in architecture, primarily working for UH and TCB among other large institutions.  Also, he was active in his church and “his favorite pastime by far was carving all types of ducks and geese”.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Werner Pratka (1930-2017):
On November 2, Werner Pratka passed away.  A native Texan, he attended Rice (class of 1952) where he played basketball and graduated from the University of North Texas.  After military service, he worked for Price Waterhouse and Schlumberger and then operated his own private CPA practice.  He is survived by, among others, his former wife Dolores.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
