Last Saturday, the New York Mets called up David Aardsma and yesterday the Cincinnati Reds recalled Tony Cingrani.

Tony Cingrani (3-0, 3.15) was the winning pitcher as Cincinnati defeated Chicago, 12-2.  For good measure, he went 2-for-2.

2013 First-Year Player Draft:
Yesterday, rounds 1 and 2 of the Draft were completed.  Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (nephew of Natalye Appel ‘80/’82) was drafted first overall by the Astros.

The draft continues with rounds 3-10 today at 11:30 am CT and 11-40 tomorrow at 12 pm CT.

Tyler Duffey:
On Wednesday, prior to his promotion, Tyler Duffey was named to the Western Division All-Star team for the Midwest League All-Star game. Read more.

UIL Baseball Playoffs, State Baseball Tournament:
Today at noon, Fort Bend Dulles faces Arlington Martin in the Class 5A baseball state semifinal at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.  Dulles is coached by Clinton Welch, a three-year Rice baseball letterman (1981-82-83). 

Dulles eliminated Cy-Ranch, defending state champs, two weeks ago.  Cy-Ranch is coached by John Pope, a two-year Rice baseball letterman (1988-89).

2013 First-Year Player Draft:
The 2013 First-Year Player Draft takes place this Thursday through Saturday.  Yesterday, Baseball America ranked Austin Kubitza #122, Michael Ratterree #373 and John Simms #377 among the top 500 draft prospects.  Also, Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (the nephew of Natalye Appel ‘80/’82) was ranked #2.

Cole St.Clair:
Last month, Cole St.Clair had hip surgery and won’t be cleared for baseball until November.  Next week, he starts working for Yelp as an Account Executive in Scottsdale.

Cleveland called up Matt Langwell from AAA Columbus.  Also, Anthony Rendon was promoted from AA Harrisburg to AAA Syracuse where he will play both second and third base.
