Rice Trustee Dr Ruth Simmons is the sole finalist for the position of President of Prairie View A&M.  Read more.

Bobby Warren (1929-2017):
On October 9, Bobby Warren passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a BA (’51) and a BS (’52) in  Mechanical Engineering from Rice.  He worked as an engineer for several companies, retiring at the age of 55 as President of Santa Fe International Engineering.  He is survived by, among others, his wife Mary (they were married in 1951).  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Nancy B Rapoport '82:
Nancy B Rapoport Honored with Lawrence P King Award (CLLA)

Kyle Roberson (1953-2017):
On May 26, Kyle Roberson passed away.  A native Houstonian, he earned an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M and a Masters (’81) and a PhD (’84) from Rice in Mechanical Engineering. He “research technologies for energy, followed by mainframe computers in Silicon Valley, and arrived at Hanford (WA)  in 1990 to help in the cleanup”.  In 1995, he started Cirque Brewery.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 43 years, Kaye.  Click here for The Tri-City Herald obituary.

Guy Johnson Jr (1922-2017):
On August 30, Guy Johnson Jr passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a PhD in Math at Rice in 1958 and served as a faculty member at Rice and Syracuse for over 30 years until his retirement in 1987.  Click here for The Coloradoan obituary.

On October 5, Stewart Gammill III passed away.  A native of Mississippi, he attended Rice (class of 1958) and graduated from Milsaps College.  Also, he received a Masters degree in Math from the University of Mississippi.  He served in the Mississippi Air National Guard and was active in the community.  Click here for the Clarion Ledger obituary.

On October 3, Joyce Winning Nagle ’44 passed away at the age of 94.  She was a charter member of the Rice Historical Society and a longtime, faithful member of the board.  The funeral was private.

Paul Cochran MD:
On October 5, Paul Cochran MD passed away.  He earned a BA in English from Rice in 1954 and a MD from UTMB Galveston in 1958.  After military service in Germany and many years of private medical practice in Dallas, Dr. Cochran moved with his family to Topeka to work as an internist for the Menninger Foundation.  He will be remembered for “his keen sense of humor, his intellectual curiosity and his love of entertaining loved ones with stories".  He is survived by, among others, his wife  Mary.  Click here for The Topeka Capital-Journal obituary.

Rev Donald Bane:
On September 13, Rev Donald Bane passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Rice in 1958 with a BA in Philosophy.  After military service, he graduated from the General Theological Seminary in New York City in 1962 with a Master of Divinity and was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in Texas in 1963.   And, he completed a MS degree from Iona College for the practice of psychotherapy and pastoral counseling in 1973.  He served several parishes in New York before retiring in 1997.  Also, he enjoyed reading and flying his Cessna.  Click here for The News Journal obituary.

Charles Orr (1927-2017):
On September 29, Charles Orr passed away.  A native Houstonian, he graduated from Rice in 1948 where he met his wife Patricia (class of 1951).  He worked 26 years for the City of Houston Public Works Dept as a civil engineer.  Also, he was devoted to his family.  He is predeceased by, among others, Patricia.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.
