Donald Jordan (1937 - 2013):
On June 9, Donald Jordan passed away.  A native Texan, he earned a football scholarship to Rice but several knee surgeries ended his playing career and he served as a manager of the football team.  After graduating from Rice in 1960, he enjoyed a successful 49 year career in the insurance business.  He is survived by, among other, his wife of 53 years, Sharlene.  Click here for the San Antonio Express-News obituary.

Wayne Rogers (1938 - 2013):
June 2, Wayne Rogers passed away.  A native Texan, he earned BA and BS degrees with honors in electrical engineering from Rice in 1960 and 1961 and a master’s from the University of Kentucky in 1965.  Following a 31 year career with IBM, he taught math at Austin Community College for 12 years.  He is survived by, among others, his wife of 50 years, Martha.  Click here for the Austin American-Statesman obituary.

Brus receives Welch Foundation's highest award in chemistry (Rice News)

Sr. Thomas Margaret Zagst OP (1923 - 2013):
On June 3, Sister Thomas Margaret Zagst OP passed away.  A native Louisianan, she earned a BA with a major in English from Rice in 1945 and a MA from Catholic University.  She joined the Dominican Sister of Houston in 1949 and taught for many years at St. Agnes and other schools in Houston and California.  Also, she served as assistant librarian at St Mary Seminary before retiring in 2004.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Ernest Cole (1913 - 2013):
On May 13, Ernest Allen Cole passed away.  A native Texan, he graduated from Temple Junior College and Rice in 1936 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.  He worked for Petrolite (now Baker Hughes) for 37 years.  Also, he was active in his church and other organizations.  Click here for the Chronicle obituary.

Douglas Gale Ashcraft (1952 - 2013):
On May 29, Douglas Gale Ashcraft passed away.  A native Missourian, he graduated from Rice with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Science in 1974 and 1978, respectively.   He enjoyed a long and successful career as a structural engineer in Missouri and Texas.  Also, he was actively involved in religious and community organizations.  Click here for the Midland Reporter-Telegram obituary.
