RBI Club member (and Rice Historical Society board member) Sandy Sims Benak attended Baylor with Elizabeth Crook ’82 for two years before the noted author transferred to Rice. 

Sandy remembers: “We lived together in the BU freshmen girls dorm.  There were four of us who did everything together that year.  Every night to the library til 10 pm, jogging afterward and just making it back to the dorm by 11 pm curfew.”

Thanks to the ARA and the Friends of Fondren Library, Elizabeth Crook ’82 returns to the library, this time the Kyle Morrow Room, on Tuesday, October 21 from 6 – 8 pm, to discuss her latest book Monday, Monday.  After the discussion, there will be a casual reception.  Learn more about this program and register to attend in person or as a virtual web stream guest here

Rice’s first female cheerleader was Betty Jean "Foxie" Fox ' 48, per Rice University: One Hundred Years in Photos by Karen Rogers, Lee Pecht and Alan Bath. 

Tonight between 6 – 9 pm, Rice Athletics and the “R” Association invite you to an event for Rice Cheerleading in the Hudspeth Auditorium at the Anderson-Clarke Center.  Paul Tobolowsky ’69 will talk about his new book Stardust Dancing (A Seeker’s Guide to the Miraculous).  The event will be catered by former Rice baseball player Frankie Mandola ’69.  Read more and/or register here.

First, thanks to Michael Liu '95 for the guest trivia question!

In 1990, Amit Patel created the BBS door game Solar Realms Elite which helped pay for his Rice education where he graduated summa cum laude in 1994.  He joined Google in 1999 as an early employee (either #6 or #7) while working on his Stanford PhD.  He and another engineer Paul Buchheit came up with Google’s slogan, “Don’t Be Evil”.  These days, he is interested in helping others make games – check out his home page here
