Kevin Costner (CSF ’78) has starred or appeared in at least 10 baseball movies and won 2 Academy Awards in 1991 for “Dances with Wolves” (Best Picture and Best Director).  The Titans are playing in the College World Series beginning this weekend.  (Thanks, Mike Ross!)

Joanne Woodward attended LSU, won a 1957 Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in “The Three Faces of Eve”.  She was married to the late Paul Newman who won a 1986 Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “The Color of Money”.  The Tigers are playing in the College World Series beginning this weekend.  (Thanks, Mike Ross!)

Three-year Rice football letterman Bill Batchelor ’71 (1968-69-70) became a Professor and Holder of the R. P. Gregory ’32 Chair in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M.  He recently retired. 

On Monday, the Aggies won the Houston Regional and they are advancing to the Super Regionals this weekend.

Sam Houston State AD Bobby Williams Jr, who was a starter at wide receiver for the Owls, has 2 Rice degrees (B.A. in 1981 and a Master of Arts in 1982).  His father, the late Bobby Williams Sr., played both football (he was a member of the Owls 1958 Cotton Bowl team) and baseball at Rice.

On Monday, the Bearkats won the Lubbock Regional and they are advancing to their first ever Super Regional this weekend.

OJ Brigance is the only football player to win a CFL and NFL championship in the same city (Baltimore).  Tomorrow, Rice Athletics hosts a day honoring OJ.  Read more. 

Among those attending will be former Owl and 14-year NFL veteran Larry Izzo. Interestingly, OJ (St Louis) and Larry (New England) faced off against each other in Super Bowl XXXVI on February 3, 2002.
